Oh, I had three or four, all thanks to IPLawGuy, who was the station manager when I was a frosh. First, I had a show called "Barcus," and then "Music from Detroit," and finally I was the host of Virginia's longest-running and most-popular radio game show "Quiz Kid."

Seriously.
 

Its all true. The Prof was later Station Manager himself.
 

Air Checks! Air Checks! Air Checks! Please, oh please...
 

I actually had a lot of fun making PSA's. Only one got banned. I made it as a senior with a new kid at the station, Rick Box. It went something like this:

Me: Hello, I'm Satan.

Rick Box: And I'm Satan's friend, Rick Box.

Me: We're here with a very important Satanic message.

Rick Box: Littering is a problem for all of us.

Me: Remember to dispose of your trash in a proper receptacle!

Rick Box: Only by working together can we eliminate litter!

Me: Thank you, Rick Box!

Rick Box: And thank you, Satan! See you in hell!

Together: (playfully) Ha ha ha!
 

I had a bunch of shows at Beloit, and then I became the productions director and when you are on the board of the radio station you have to fill in for anyone who gets sick or does not show for their shows, Which is a lot of people... I learned a LOT about music subbing for others.

I LOVED making the PSAs That was a pretty fun job.

My favorite show of my own was a Morning show that started at 6 AM on Tuesday Mornings. It was called Morning Sickness with Mary and Liz. We even had FANS!!!

I even got a free trip to NYC for some college radio convention thing! That was pretty fun.

I think the radio and theater people are usually the coolest people on any campus. Even if they are total nerds (like me) they still have the most fun.
 

Tyd and the Prof were DJs during the fun, peppy 1980's. I started as a DJ at WCWM "Radio Free Williamsburg" in 1978. And the folks running the place still thought in was 1968. So we were trained to speak in dull, flat, "stoned FM-DJ" monotone style.

I never did any recorded PSAs. I just read the cards and spun the discs.
 

The Professor doubtless recalls "Saint Vincent and the Grenadines"--a group of high-school nerds who were frequent participants on the Quiz Kid show. When I (the organizer of the group, who picked up the moniker "Saint Vincent") went on to university, I tried to interest the managers of the school's new radio station in a version of the program. No luck with that, but I can now amaze my students with references to "back when *I* had a radio show..."
