New Year's Resolutions, presented by Big Red®
2007 was a great year, and I think there will be some significant changes, personally and nationally, in 2008. While many of you have come to rely on the Razor for cutting-edge drivel, stimulating recipes, and repetitive haiku, the Razor Resolutions for 2008 promise even more! Check it out:
1) The Razor is going to move into the modern media age, and begin featuring product placements by some of our corporate partners. These placements, of course, will not affect the content and integrity of the Razor in any way!
2) Some people have noticed a paucity of repressed memories and recipes in recent months. These areas will be beefed up, as will the area of Britney News.
3) This year, the Razor resolves to enjoy even more Big Red®, America's favorite red-colored beverage! Big Red®-- Red Means Refreshment!
4) Finally, this year will feature a return of the photo of IpLawGuy® dancing on a car with a keg on his head. Sadly, this photo has not been featured enough of late, a problem I promise to remedy!
What are your resolutions?

No, no, that's not me. Its YOUR fraternity big brother, who later became a top aide to Congressman Tom Delay.
I resolve to drive more carefully, especially while guzzling delicious Pepsi-Cola. Pepsi-- it's the choice of MY generation!
Re: #2 & #3,
I seem to vaguely recall that my mom makes very delicious Big Red ice cream.
From the 1983 Waco Tx VA Hospital Cookbook comes the following gem:
2 cans eagle brand milk
2 qts. frozen strawberries
2-3 32 oz bottles of Big Red
Put in ice cream freezer, filling to top with Big Red. Makes one gallon. May substitute orange drinks and 8 oz.crushed pineapple for Big Red and strawberries. (Pg. 237, courtesy of one James Lauderdale, Recreation. Current whereabouts unknown.)
I have made this a couple of times. It was, not surprisingly, fabulous.
The CL is more up-to-date on all the celebrity news, such that it is. ;)

Yeah we all really MISS that picture of the guy on the hood of the green station wagon holding the keg..
And the guy in the yellow hat..
WHAT is BIG RED?
They must not have it in either Oregon, Wisconsin, Michigan or California - all of the places I have lived in.
I know only of BIG RED gum.

Big Red is the red soft drink that reminds me a lot of thin, sweet, cough medicine with bubbles. One accidentally came out of a vending machine while I was trying to get a Dr. Pepper. I put in on top of the machine--there were at at least ten cans of the stuff there already from other fooled customers. You either love it or hate it. I think it's disgusting.
I resolve to locate and purchase vast amounts of Vernors ginger ale. Vernors®: It's like throwing up in your mouth!
Maybe that isn't a good catch-phrase. How about "Vernors: It's super-carbonated and derived from wood by-products!"

I must defend the honor of Vernors! The Iplawparents buy it whenever they return to the Midwest and bring it back to the hinterlands of Virginia. It tastes like REAL Ginger Ale, not that sugary sweet crap foisted off on consumers by those sneaky Canadians with their "Dry" soda!
Thanks, Tyd and Medievalist, for asking--and telling--what Big Red is. I've been out of the country too long, so I had no idea . . . and still I don't remember seeing it here in Virginia, but they must have it . . . I'll have to try it and see whether I'm in the Love It or Hate It camp.
Ahh Vernors, I haven't enjoyed that fine bubbly beverage since my summers at Interlochen. That, Big Red, and Vess are all but fading memories...
SG,
You will not find Big Red in Virginia. I've seen Vernors at speciality stores like the lamented and lost Sutton Place Gourmet, but never Big Red. The only place I've ever seen it is in Waco. If it showed up in the DC area, it would be sold at gas stations next to the Little Debbie snack cakes.

Noble beverages, all. But until you've had MOXIE, you are sadly deprived. Still made by a single plant in the New England area, Moxie (and yes, that's where the word for "toughness, verve, courage, with a little dash of stupidity" comes from) is a wonderfully complex soft drink, somewhere in the vicinity of a cola, within hailing distance of Dr Pepper (never, EVER put a period after "Dr") and within the same area code as one of the fine Mexican soft drinks (Tamerindo).
Do give it a try someday!

Big Red is the nectar of the hangover gods. It tastes like melted Bubblicious and has more caffeine than any other mass market soda (including Mountain Dew). It goes perfectly w/ greasy mexican food and the mother of all hangover cures, Menudo (not the band). Yum! Good luck finding it!
Menudo... eww....
Vernor's ROCKS.
Love it You can get it in CA and OR in just the grocery store.
What you cannot here get is Better Made Cheese popcorn. It is this nuclear neon orange cheese popcorn that is very salty and cheesy and so orange it can be seen from space. I miss it.
