No, It's Not Ironic

As I continue my obsession with Alanis Morissette's song "Ironic," I finally found this good analysis of actual irony in the song. According to the author, the song contains 2.5 examples of actual irony out of 11 total attempts.

Now that's a no-smoking sign on your cigarette break!

Comments:
A lecture on the intricacies of irony is what you get when Prof. Fed Courts is sick and he lets his assistant be responsible for class. To be sure, he did just ask me to "pass out the course evaluations," but where's the fun in that?

Nice analysis. I always thought that she confused irony with bad luck, poor timing, and different sorts of bummers, such as the fly thing. It's not ironic, it's just a bummer. Just as in the ideal man case, it's a bummer, but it's not ironic. My little analysis here is just one symptom of too much education. I need to get out more.

OK, Thanks. Now can you explain "Stairway to Heaven"?

"Bustle in your Hedgerow"?

Your right it's not so ironic... but I still dig the song...

Iplaw where have you been? "stairway to Heaven" is about how the moon landing was faked and it was really filmed on a soundstage in Hollywood, CA. If you play it backwards? IT plays the demonic and homosexual song "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" by Cole Porter.

Tyd,

Thanks! I thought that was the parody, "Stairway to Gilligan" that did that.

the song is ironic in itself that it includes no irony what-so-ever
