Haiku Friday: European Trip!
Hello, Haiku friends! This week, let's write about trips to Europe-- the ones you've had, the ones you hope to have, or the ones you don't want at all.
I'm not sure why the trip to Europe so captures the hearts of Americans, but there can be no doubt that it does.
Here, I will go first:
Bought a guide: "Let's Go!"
Got it used, dated '02,
Turns out, things do change!
Now it is your turn! Use the 5/7/5 syllable format, and have fun!

Drug dealer said he
Could give me a better life
I highly doubt it.
(Based on my experiences getting lost at night in a not-so-nice area of Amsterdam, winter 2006).

When the door of the
Elevator closed,they were
Alone,stamen,pistil.
She smelled him first,like
Driftwood brought in by the sea.
Smoking.On fire.
Dress petalled tiger
Lily wafted dangerjoy.
They fell from the cliff.
When the door opened
They were fully buttoned,but
Lobby air red steam.
She never forgot Thomas.
Some evenings now,she brought wine
To closet.Slammed door.

The waiter brought dark red
Beer,Trappist-brewed. We saw green
Boat-homes bearing roses.
On every street corner
There was art.Live or painted.
Drunk woman wanted coins.
Dam Square,coexist
A gaudy carnival and
Sublime Palace.Yes!

Breakfast came triangles,
Golden wisps of pastry,filled
Jam,butter.Heaven.
And large ivory cups
Steaming milky brew which drove
Out sleep.In clarity.
It was then I saw
Her: naked,buxom and
Disarmed.Mona smiled.

Took Sal to Japan.
In Kyoto,after a few Sun Tories
She became my geisha.
Under the neon
Sky we walked in Tokyo
Ate tonkatsu in bed.
Ah,little lotus
Why does the gentle rain fall
From your peepers? Girl
Whom you do not know
Wears your kimono when you
Return.Lotus yells.

Listen Osler--Geoff sucks...the big one!!
Geoff bought me kimono--
Japan.Dress had fine print:
"F--k me,"in tiny letters!
Bad enough,but then
When I got back from shopping:
Geisha hussy & Geoff in flagrante delicto
(and I don't care how many syllables that is,Osler! Put that in your pipe and smoke it!!!)

Four college aged boys
Each armed with Eurail passes--
Cheap places to sleep
Three wanted to drink
beer and meet women, and one
made us see museums.
Bless him. I am now
wiser, dare I say, cultured?
Know what a nave is.

Listen Osler--Geoff sucks,as I have told you over and over!! You wouldn't feel so tootsy,if you came back from shopping at Mieko's Secret,and some one else was wearin your f--k me kimono,I guarantee that,Big Boy! And I personally think you would look very manly smoking a pipe. Are you single? Inquiring Minds want to know.No hard feelings.
BUCHAREST 1968
Mahogany beds
Snowy duvet,pristine sheets
Dishwater soup,congealed
Cutlets swam in fat.
Tour tried to skip churches,still
I knelt on straw.Prayed.
Even God did not
Seem to live here.Disbelief
Danced on candlewicks.
Fourth of July--In
Bucharest.Old crones in black,
Barefoot.Star-Spangled Flag.

GRANADA
She sat on sidewalk
Because she could not stand.Leg?
Deformed tree branch...stormed.
Was she selling something?
A guitar sang in inky twilight.
I averted eyes.

Betsey Pike, is that you Renee!
Cannot really remember
July 1968 Bucharest
I was two and a half
But I do remember my grandma
Assured me God lived there.

One I submitted in rough draft previously. It works for this week's subject and it's now finished ... I think.

Gulp! We had consumed.

French-challenged, we parsed,
Word by word to reveal a

In Greece With A Counselor
She had long fancied him.
Now their tryst was approaching
He fed her olives,as
They picnicked on the
Mediterranean sea.
Lucky...waves were warm.
A gull cried overhead:
Feast on her!As he kissed her,
Saw her moue.Trademark!

Don't worry,my Marta...if ever you were in Bucharest...God was there too...He lives behind your eyes.
In London, the bride,
ex-pat daughter, gave
birth to a beauty.
Red-haired Sophie Rose
arrived, family royalty,
a princess, of course.
In nine days she will
be six years old, in Houston,
and in the first grade.
Her current passion --
reading first tale of a boy --
Harry of Hogwarts.
~~~~~~
Margaret Grace, born
a second daughter, in London,
blonde with large blue eyes.
No easy baby,
she brought a troubled stomach,
and long sleepless nights.
Outgrowing the woes,
she emerged, a darling imp,
with a button nose.
Now a Texas child,
she spreads fairy dust and joy
liberally, there.
~~~~~~
Two sisters came home
to the U.S. of A.
with “Mummy” and Dad.
One remembering
England, “Nanny” and taxis.
Two dual passports.
