Haiku Friday: Texas

Today, let's haiku about Texas.

Here is mine:

Dry and hot, all that
But, guess what? I'm coming back.
Austin, March two eight.

Now, you go! 5 syllables/7/5...

[And re Austin: It's true. On March 28 at 7 pm, we'll be doing the trial of Jesus at First Baptist Church in Austin. Two days before that, we'll be in Boulder, Colorado, at St. John's Episcopal-- and that production will feature out own IPLawGuy!]

Comments:
Governor Goodhair,
No need for guns on campus,
Do you understand?

I love mnemonics:
2-5-4 Texas counties,
And area code!

Not been to Texas
On the list of things to do
Dallas or Austin?

AShimmel, easy!
Head ye to Austin, Texas
Seven times more fun.

I never believed
Vodka could come from Texas.
Tito's set me straight.

Lena,Myrtle and
Margaret,strongfancywise,
Texas Bluebonnets.

Poured sweet tea from old
Brown pitchers with right hand,and
Taught English with left.

Men just fell in line
And were grateful.The drawl drew
Them close.Pecan pie.

Eagle Pass skin brown,
He was wanted.But what he
Wanted: children fed,taught.

He took a job from
Mr.Roger as hired man,
Drove tractor,saved pay.

Texas:conduit
Its mole-colored river
Road to dreams.

"You're from Iowa?"
"Yah, actually from Des Moines?"
"Near Boise, right?" Texas.

Born Amarillo
Never going back again
Crazy relatives

Nice GQ portrait with black angus and black sunglasses and garb,Professor. Could be a whole new career as male model!

Where did MY Texas
go? Why is higher learning
mocked and defunded?

Where did MY Texas
go? When did being progressive
(like Molly) become bad?

Where did MY Texas
go? When did weapons in schools
become a good thing?

Where did MY Texas
go? Who truly thinks Guv Big
Hair is “statesmanlike”?

Where did MY Texas
go? Why is “Native Texan”
no longer special?

Janis, Stevie Ray.
The Cowboys with Clint, Tex, Tom.
Barbara. Molly, too.

Hippie Hollow. Luv
Ya Blue. TWO parties within
a pink granite dome.

March the Second, taught
to schoolkids. Remember the
Alamo! Ann, too.

MY Texas is gone.
Replaced by poseurs except
for one Truth: Willie.

In a completely unrelated post, a friend passed this along:

I feel better now. Jill

Field of bluebonnets
And a blanket made of stars
Times to remember.

Oh, The Dixie Chicks
Sang the words from my heart, soul
It sounds good to me.

First trip: Fed him Kreuz.
Kolaches ev'ry morning.
He wants to go back.

Jill, love that list from Buzz Feed! Would you believe I've lived in Texas my entire 42 years and just got introduced to Topo Chico at Christmas? Oh, my! Perrier be damned!

Sheesh, Megan, even I found Topo Chico the first week I was in Texas! Just lucky, I guess...

Plains. Wetlands. Deserts.
Hills. Horny toads. Stevie Ray.
I long for Mountains.

Obnoxious Texans
Smugly Clubby bout Lone Star
.....wrong! You too can join.

I married a man
Who grew up here. Well, no. I
Married his accent.

That man,scrawny Tex,
Played guitar like angel harp,
Sang baritone tunes.

Wide white hat cowboy'd
Sandy strands of hair.What did
He have? Lace gown off.

He gave me the will
To write songs.First,for him. I
Blossomed desert air.

I made him coffee.
Chicory roast,sweet danish.
His kiss I still taste.

And you complain about me,Sally! Sally, methinks thou dost protest too much (that's Shakespeare,Girlie,in case you didn't recognize it).

Yeah! You chased that cow-
Boy like a lovesick filly...
Just 'cause he could beller.

Then he left you high
And dry like Texas drought...
And none too hot.Sheesh!

Okay,maybe I
Got cold,scaly feet,but I
Still worship your mind.

Always the greatest
State in the union. Just
stay in a city

Ann Richards

Lord yes,she was so
Pretty!Gone now...Cancer ate
Silver pouf,red lips.

Democratic grave
Holds her bones,yearning for one
Last word. Name it,Gal!

Megan, glad you've been "baptized" - better late than never.

Old Testament hair,
Eyes in a crackpot,he gathered them
And lit the flame.Whoosh.

And what the g-men saw
Was boys and girls and women
And men and babies

Go,Going,Gone smoke.
Going up to God screaming
Scarlet torches.But--

What about him,Mama?
Where did he go? Wacko Man
Who thought him a god?

Been to Texas twice
Houston hotter than Tampa
during mid-August

Dallas was real dull
especially while holed up
at a conference

Perhaps a trip to
Austin for South by Southwest
or a swimming hole

Roadways, wild flowers
forefront to the oil derricks
Thank you Lady Bird

Jill--love that long poem. And Willie too. Excellent work.

Uncle 'Vester's mob
Came from Irving,dipped crackers
In tabasco,mayo.

Forgot.Characters!"
