Haiku Friday: Furniture
I am terrible at furniture selection. Aside from a couch that was re-upholstered by Jack White of the White Stripes, I have nothing of real note or value.
Still, there is furniture that sticks with us, that was unique or meaningful in our lives. Last night, I was trying to describe a couch my parents had which we used for high-jump practice as kids, Fosberry-flopping over the back and onto the cushions (and destroying the couch in the process).
Here is mine:
Oh, beautiful couch
Catch me in your leather mitt
My name is your doom.
Now it is your turn--
Five syllables

Just do it!

I tried to haiku this story. I really did. It just would not work. Still, it is pretty funny. So apologies to Mark ...
After my grandmother died, my two sisters and I met at her house in Mississippi to divvy things up. My father was an only child and he died when he was young, so it was just the three of us. It had been evident all of our lives that the oldest sister was the favorite. She inherited the house, the car, the cash and so on. What we had to do that day was choose what was left – what was not in her will. We drew who would go first, second or third. The “favorite” got first. In a very emotional way, she said she wanted the little bell in the china cabinet. The bell was one my grandmother had as a school teacher. The kind they kept on their desks many years ago. Sweet, right? Well, I took it one step further as I was number two. I said, “I want the china cabinet the bell is in!”

The Jack White Sofa
beside Ted Nugent's table
That would really rock!
Wow, The Fosbury Flop
What an obscure reference!

Oops. Let's try this again:
A HAL 9000
Sitting on the 'puter tabl'
Red eye stares at me.
(oh, by the way, 'puter is short for computer and tabl' is table without an e).
And on an unrelated topic:
Anon five oh four:
Target marketing at work!
Oddly well-done spam.
