How can you not love this!

Everything I require in a movie:
1) Violence against doofy sports mascots
2) A cameo appearance by Sasha Cohen, who squeals with delight as she catches a (used) jock strap
3) A video montage of Detroit (inevitably, showing a 1973 Cadillac cruising past a decaying and abandoned auto plant)
4) Stray snowmobiles in backyards
5) The terror of walking on pavement in skates (it is hard to describe the horrible sound this makes)
6) North Korea.
It's Blades of Glory, and it rocks.

Wait, your last favorite flick, "The Notebook" starring James Garner, didn't feature any of these things.
That's right! And before that, you liked "The Ex-Wives Club" with Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton and Bette Midler, right?
--What you think I saw the flick? I'm not even sure if I got the actresses right. For all I know it could have been Susan Sarandon and Cher and Meryl Streep
I CANNOT WAIT to see this movie. We were going to go today while Spencer was gone and then we had to wait for my friend to pick up our old sink.
For ten years I was a SKATING FREAK I cannot WAIT to see what they have done with this. I actually used to subscribe to "International Figure Skating" magazine. I almost went to the SLC Olympics but then I could not for some reason. I did go to stuff like Skate America. My friend Siri told me this flick is HILARIOUS I cannot wait to see it.

Best Quopte from the movie ANCHORMAN:
(between Baxter and The bear):
[subtitled conversation between Ron's dog Baxter and an attacking bear]
Baxter: Leave these people alone. They mean you no harm.
Bear: We Bears are a proud race. They must pay for their intrusion.
Baxter: On my journey I met one of your kind. His name was Katow-jo. We became friends.
Bear: Katow-jo is my cousin. Go in peace.
Baxter: I will tell tales of your compassion.
Bear: Fare thee well, Baxter. You shall always be friend of the bears.
I weep every time I read it.

Tyd,
I'm not knocking it, I'm just concerned.
Then again, I can recite most of the lines from "Animal House."

I hate to say it, but Will Ferrell and that doofus from Napoleon Dynamite are the reasons I can't love it.
I just...can't...find them all that funny. :o( I'm not sure what exactly it is, but they rub me the wrong way somehow.

I love Animal House..
"Grab a Brew! (Burp) Don't cost nothin'!"
PS. I can quote MOST movies. How sad is that???

STP,
I Agree! There's just something irritating about Will Ferrell and the Napoleon Dynamite guy. What makes Animal House and to a far lesser extent, Caddyshack, work is that the lead characters (Tim Matheson, Tim Hulce as Larry Kroger and the guys who played Hoover, Flounder and Boone in the former and the kid, the actual Caddy in Caddyshack, as well as Chevy Chase's obnoxious golf pro) were not cartoon characters, they were somewhat real. Belushi and Bill Murray/Rodney Dangerfield were comic relief.
The movies where Dangerfield or Belushi became "the star" weren't as funny. Murray is more subtle; he dials it back a bit, which is why Ghostbusters is a classic and Stripes comes close.

IPL - you remember where we saw "Stripes"... we saw it right outside of Ft. Belvoir. Part of the reason it was so damned funny was that the soldiers were laughing their butts off!
TT,
You are absolutely right! I had forgotten that part, but now I remember that night at the Multiplex quite clearly.
Did you know the Prof. only saw Stripes for the first time the other night?
My favorite scene still may be Harold Ramis asking the class if they know any English words.

Stripes is not my favorite Bill Murray movie. My favorite Bill Murray movie by far is either RUSHMORE or Groundhog Day.

My favorite Bill Murray movie? "Meatballs"! A classic. And not available on DVD or video, as far as I know, so if anyone has a bootleg copy, I'm ready to pony up. It is a personal favorite of the CL couple, as we were both voted "Best Camper" at Baylor Camp, albeit several years apart. We were on opposite tribes, though, the CL was a Kiowa, and I was a Huaco. We have our trophies proudly displayed in the marital home. Sometimes we Indian Leg Wrestle for the remote.....and I can totally take him down! Do not make me stern the War Canoe! You CANNOT beat me!
